Sign Language Interpreted Masses
The Sunday 10:30 AM Mass is sign language interpreted. A pew is reserved in the front for those wishing to utilize this service. Please refer any questions to Carol Ann Norland at canorland@msn.com.

Sign Language Classes
Interested in learning sign language? Do you ever wonder what all those signs mean? Growing in popularity and starting to be offered in schools, sign language is the fourth most widely used language in the country. Classes are being offered on the second and fourth Sunday after the 10:30 Mass in Room 8A.

Special Liturgies

Epiphany
Multi-cultural celebration in the school cafeteria following the Sun. 12pm Mass for the feast of the Epiphany.

Catholic Education Mass
Reception following Mass in the school cafeteria. See bulletin for details on this January event.

Black History Month Mass
This celebration is held on the 1st weekend of February either at the Sat. 5:30pm or Sun. 5:30pm liturgy. Our Diversity Choir (a combined choir involving music ministers from Songsters, Folk Group, Revelation, and FAASM Choir) sing at this celebration.

Rite of Christian Initiation
Through the liturgical year, we dismiss our RCIA catechumens and candidates to "break open the Word" at the Sunday 9am Mass. During the season of Lent, we celebrate the Rite of Sending, the Penitential Rite, and First/Second/Third Scrutinies.

Palm Sunday
Extended confessions on Saturday of Palm Sunday weekend. The Saturday 5:30pm celebration includes a solemn procession that starts outdoors in front of the church -- weather permitting. Our Sunday 12pm celebration starts at 12:15pm.

Lenten Reconciliation Service
This service includes music, scriptural readings, and reflection. All may come forward to various stations within the church for individual confession.

Triduum
Holy Thursday (Mass of the Lord's Supper) at 7:30pm in the church then procession to the altar of repose in the Parish Meeting Room (PMR).
Thursday Night Prayer at 10:45pm in the PMR.
Friday Morning Prayer at 8:30am in the church.
Outdoor Stations at 2pm (on the JFK Blvd bike path starting at Hughes Road and ending in front of the church)
Good Friday (Service of the Lord's Passion) at 7:30pm
Saturday Morning Prayer at 8:30am in the church.
Blessing of the Food at 12pm.
Easter Vigil at 8pm.

Easter Sunday
Masses in the morning. No Sun. 5:30pm Mass.

Confirmation
Sacrament of confirmation (for our 8th graders) typically takes place on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the season of Easter.

First Communion
At the 9am, 10:30am, and 12pm Masses - from the 2nd through 7th Sundays of the Easter season.

Welcome New Parishioners
At a 12pm Mass during the Easter season, we welcome our new parishioners. Reception held in the PMR after Mass.

Acceptance/Welcome Rite
On Sun. Sept 27th at the 9am liturgy, we include the acceptance/welcome rite for those continuing their faith journey as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

May Crowning
Takes place on the first Wednesday of May at 7:30pm.

Feast of Saint Matthias
When the feast of Saint Matthias falls on a weekday, we celebrate at the weekday morning Mass. Reception in the Cry Room.

Pastoral Council commissioning
We commission new members of our Pastoral Council on the feast of Pentecost at the Sun. 10:30am celebration.

Baccalaureate Mass
Is scheduled for the last Sunday 5:30pm Mass prior to the end of the school year.

Summer SONdays
During the month of July, we celebrate a mid-Mass and closing-Mass with all families participating with Summer SONdays - usually at our 9am Mass.

Firemen's Remembrance
September 11th -- details are published in the bulletin for specifics on time. Details are also included with the lector announcements.

Catechetical Sunday
On the 3rd Sunday of September, we also celebrate Catechetical Sunday. We extend a special blessing on all our catechists at all Masses (Saturday vigil and Sunday).

Acceptance/Welcome Rite
At a 9am liturgy in September, we include the acceptance/welcome rite for those continuing their faith journey as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

San Lorenzo Celebration
St. Matthias hosts the annual diocesan celebration in observance of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz on the last Sunday of September. Come early for the novena prayers at 11:50am in the church, Mass at 12pm, followed by food and fellowship in the school cafeteria.

Blessing of Animals
After a 12pm Mass in October (usually the 1st Sunday of October), we bless animals (outdoors in the church parking lot).

St. Martin de Porres Mass
Scheduled on a Sunday between November 3rd and 9th at the 5:30pm celebration. Reception following Mass in the school cafeteria. Our Umoja Imani Songsters lead all in song at this celebration.

Parish Athletes Mass
We invite all our children and youth athletes of our parish to come to Mass at a Sunday 9am celebration during November.

Knights of Columbus
We remember deceased Knights of Columbus members with our intentions at a Sunday 10:30am celebration during November.

Thanksgiving Day
Mass at 8am on Thanksgiving Day

Advent Wreath
We invite members of our faith community to light the candles of our Advent wreath at all our Sunday celebrations. Contact the parish office if you and your family/friends would like to be included with this.

Martyrs of El Salvador
We especially remembers the martyrs of El Salvador on the first Wednesday of December at the weekday morning Mass.

Simbang Gabi
St. Matthias hosts one of nine nights for this Filipino Advent novena. Dates are coordinated through the Diocese of Metuchen Commission for the Filipino Apostolate. Our FAASM Choir leads all in song at this celebration.

Manger Blessing/Tree Lighting
Held immediately after a Saturday 5:30pm in the latter half of the season of Advent. This takes place outdoors in front of the church.

Aguinaldo, a Filipino caroling
Come for hot chocolate, cookies, Filipino food, and carols in the school cafeteria immediately after the Manger Blessing/Tree Lighting. This event includes a free will offering.

Advent Reconciliation
Starts with extended confessions on the Saturday morning of the 4th Sunday of Advent weekend or come to the Reconciliation Service on Sunday 7:30pm.

Christmas Eve/Midnight/Day

New Year's Eve Mass
Annually at December 31st at 5:30pm Mass, then healing meditation.
