The vision of learning is to engage with the community in lifelong faith formation that nurtures and deepens one’s relationship with God. Its focus is to expand knowledge, change hearts, and transform daily lives.

Education and faith formation involves such activities as children’s religious education, youth formation, sacramental preparation, parish school, Christian Initiation, small group faith sharing and family ministry.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Young people between the ages of four through the fourth grade are led by adult catechists from the Sunday assembly at the 10 am Mass to another location (Parish Meeting Room) to break open the Word from the Sunday’s scripture readings more on a children’s level of understanding. The children return to Mass to participate in the Eucharist.

Adult Formation

This core committee visions and plans adult faith formation opportunities and programs in collaboration with the Formation Commission. New members are always welcome. Please consider being part of our planning team.

Young Adults

Young Adults at St. Matthias
Our purpose is to gather young adults in our parish in their 20’s or 30’s, single, married, or in a relationship, in order to deepen faith, serve the community, and provide an opportunity for fun and friendship. This will be facilitated through social activities, serving other groups within our parish, and spiritual events, among other opportunities. New members and ideas are welcome!

Vocations Committee

This group is made up of interested parishioners who are involved in promoting awareness of vocations to the religious life and the priesthood. The committee meets periodically and connects to the Diocese of Metuchen Vocations Office. It is hoped that the committee will foster an atmosphere that is encouraging and supportive of vocations.

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is available in the parish for anyone who desires to increase their “God-awareness” and deepen their relationship with God. Appointments are on an individual basis.
